Basic Outline of Exterior
Procedures
We provide this basic outline of procedures as a reference to you so
that you may be certain of the thorough job we render.
1)
Power washing of all the surfaces to be painted. This step is
to remove any dirt, mildew, algae, etc from the surfaces. This step
usually takes place a few days prior to the prep work. We use a
water/bleach solution. This does not hurt any shrubs, plants, trees,
etc. The solution we use is mild enough, but strong enough to kill any
mold that may be present. If we are just doing small surface areas of
a home, we hand wash the surfaces.
2)
The
areas that are to be worked on are always covered with drop cloths or
plastic.
3)
All wood
surfaces to painted are thoroughly scraped and sanded. All bare wood is
primed with an oil base exterior primer. Any gaps, cracks, etc are
caulked.
4)
Window sashes that are being painted are scraped, sanded and loose glazing
is removed. We re-glaze sashes as needed. Drainage holes for
storm windows are reopened, if needed.
5)
Wood Rot is replaced upon change order with the customer's approval.
We do minor wood rot repair with wood hardeners and epoxys. We also do
some exterior wood repair, however sometimes the need of carpenter is
needed.
4)
Exterior Stucco: We wire brush any loose paint.
Exterior Aluminum: We do not sand, unless it was previously painted.
If needed we add Emulsa Bond to the finish coat, the aids in adhesion to
chalky surfaces.
Exterior Asbestos: We do not sand. The pressure washing process
usually removes any loose paint.
Exterior Clapboard Siding: We scrape any loose paint, sand all the
boards, etc.
5)
Upon
completion of the project, the property is cleaned. We makes sure
there is no scrapings, debris, etc. laying around the grounds.
6)
All surplus materials will be given to the owner upon project
completion for
future maintenance. Each
container is marked to indicate date, color and type
of paint, as well as surface
location for your future reference.
