Basic Outline of Interior Painting Procedures

We provide this basic outline of procedures as a reference to you so

that you may be certain of the thorough job we render.

1)    All areas being worked on are protected with plastic and/or drop cloths and the remaining furniture is centered in the room and covered with plastic.

2)    All entry ways/openings will be masked off to keep the dust to a minimum. (if applicable, we will turn off the heat/ac to further prevent the dust from spreading.

3)    Door knobs, and misc. easily removed hardware is removed prior to painting.

4)    All walls and ceilings are scoped out with halogen lamps to ensure we repair/spackle all imperfections. This is done between each coat.

5)    Wall and ceiling surfaces (nail pops, holes, cracks, etc.) are spackled one to two times depending on the severity of the situation.  Nail pops are re-secured and spackled. Severe stress cracks are fiberglass mesh-taped and feather spackled.  Corner beads that are cracked are drywall taped and spackled. The entire surface area is then pole sanded to smooth out the spackle as well as remove any bumps on the surface.

6)    Water stains, crayons, ink marks, etc., are sealed with an oil-based stain sealer to ensure they do not bleed through the finish coat.

7)    Woodwork is sanded to smooth rough edges or imperfections.  Caulk is applied wherever it may be needed in places such as baseboards, doorframes, etc.  Bare wood is primed accordingly. Woodwork is sanded and dusted between coats to promote better adhesion.

8)    Spackled areas are spot primed.  If these surfaces are not properly primed, the paint will flash when any type of gloss finish is used.  Bare wood areas are also spot primed.  If this step is not taken the finish will not adhere to the wood.

9)    The final step is to apply the finish coats to the walls, ceilings, and woodwork.  All cut lines between finishes or colors shall be true and sharp.

10) After all work is complete, work areas will be lightly cleaned: Dust, vacuum,

damp  sponge hardwood floors, scrape windows.

11) All surplus materials will be given to the owner upon project completion for

future maintenance.  Each container is marked to indicate date, color and type

of paint, as well as surface and room location for your future reference.
